Partner Clubs
LRHS has a variety of different clubs, organizations, and honor societies that do a lot of cool things with science! Here's a list of a few ones:
- MESA (Math Engineering Science Achievement)
MESA consists of a few (generally 3 to 4 each year) teams of people, each focusing on solving a different STEM challenge. Past challenges include designing an efficient windmill, programming a virtual robot to navigate a maze, designing a low-budget prosthetic arm, and building a bridge to hold as much weight as possible. The culmination of the year is the regional MESA Day, where groups display their work and compete against other local MESA schools. There are also state and national MESA competitions for the winners of these competitions! Participation in MESA is an excellent opportunity to advance your practical skillset and learn more about the sciences. Talk to Mrs. Radebe for more information.
- Environmental Club
Environmental Club encourages students and community members to explore environmental stewardship in all its forms. You can read more about Environmental Club here! Talk to Mr. Jacobs for more information.
- Science Olympiad
Do you have a knack for test-taking? A passion for science? An undying devotion to competition? (Or maybe you're just mildly interested in those things. We don't judge.) Then consider joining the Long Reach Science Olympiad team! A Science Olympiad team consists of 16 people who, in one day, compete in 23 events focused on subjects including chemistry, physics, biology, anatomy, astronomy, and more! In addition to being super fun, Science Olympiad is a great opportunity to practice and hone your knowledge in multiple fields of science. Talk to Mrs. Radebe for more information! - Shout-out to the team for winning 9th place at the Central Maryland Tournament and Maryland State Finals!
